PWTC Abuzz With Activity Ahead Of UMNO Assembly
KUALA LUMPUR Oct 18 – Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), the venue for the Umno General Assembly, is abuzz with activity, with traders putting in place their final preparations on the sidelines of the assembly, arguably the biggest event at the PWTC.
Stalls offering a wide variety of goods have been a permanent feature of the annual assembly, attracting party delegates as well as observers who are coming from all over the country.
The PWTC management issued licences for 320 stalls located on the third and second floors this year, compared to only 220 stalls previously which were limited to only the second floor.
A check by Bernama today saw traders doing their last minute preparations such as arranging their products, putting up screens and discussing sales strategies.
Ahmad Zaidi, a trader from Taiping, said he could not wait to start business especially as this would be his first at the Umno general assembly.
“I found out about this opportunity from friends and the Internet… I had applied many times and I was finally selected. I’m so excited,” said the man whose stall will carry batik, sampin, brooches, kerepek (chips) and flowers on the third floor.
Meanwhile, Putrade Property Management Sdn Bhd, which manages the PWTC, promises a five-star service throughout the general assembly from tomorrow until Saturday.
Its chief executive officer Maxson Abdullah Jaafar said company staff would be guided by the concept of “doing it right for the first time and each time” in serving the VIPs, delegates and observers.
“We make improvements based on feedback received during previous assemblies, including toilet cleanliness and in terms of the catering service,” he told a news conference.
The PWTC had also employed 30 auxiliary policemen since August to help man security in the vicinity, he said.
