Ku Li Denies Having Problem With Candidate
GUA MUSANG, Oct 27 – Gua Musang Umno division head, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) director for the by-election for the Galas state seat, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has denied allegations that he was having problems with the BN candidate, Ab Aziz Yusoff.
The allegations came about when he was not seen among the party leaders who accompanied Ab Aziz to the nomination centre at the Gua Musang Land and District
Office, here yesterday.
This raised questions among the various quarters including the opposition, which led to the allegation that there was a tiff between Tengku Razaleigh and Ab Aziz.
Explaining the matter, Tengku Razaleigh said he normally did not go to the district office during the nomination process.
“Furthermore, many of my friends were already accompanying the candidate to
submit his nomination papers. So, I felt it was better for me to remain outside
with our supporters and workers from all over the country who had converged at
the centre, there’s no problem,” he said.
He disclosed this when approached by reporters during a ‘walkabout’ at Kampung Baru, here last night.
Asked whether he was unhappy with Ab Aziz as alleged by the opposition, Tengku Razaleigh said: “Unhappy over what? It’s normal (for the opposition) to break us up.”
He said the efforts by the opposition would not work because he and the Gua Musang Umno divisional committee fully supported the selection of Ab Aziz and they had nominated his name to party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for selection as the candidate.
Commenting on the slightly different campaigning style in Galas compared to the previous by-elections, Tengku Razaleigh said the change in approach was to ensure BN’s victory.
He said all visits and programmes during the campaign must be coordinated to avoid duplication.
“That’s why I try to organise the operations to avoid duplication. That’s why we reduce visits by ministers to the same place. We try to change and direct them to other places,” he added.
