Personal Attacks By Pas Tarnishing Islam
GUA MUSANG, Oct 31 – Wanita Gerakan chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe today expressed disbelief that PAS authorised the condemnation of Barisan Nasional (BN) individuals, an act she said was contrary to Islam.
She said such an attitude by the opposition party not only confused Muslims and tarnished the religion but confused non-Muslims as well as to the party’s principles.
During election campaigns, PAS leaders were busy condemning BN leaders while, at the same time, they kept harping on words such as “dosa” (sin) and “pahala” (reward), she told Bernama.
“They do not practise what they preach. They are much better than us when it comes to talking about sins, but at ceramah (talk) they condemn us. Is that not sinful?” asked the deputy minister of domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism.
Tan was commenting on PAS having broken its promise not to indulge in personal attacks in the campaign in the Galas state by-election, and having begun to launch attacks against Gua Musang MP and BN director for the by-election, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.
In BAGAN DATOH, Perak, Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said PAS had resorted to launching personal attacks because it had become desperate.
“PAS has started raising trivial issues because it has run out of capital to garner the people’s votes,” he told reporters after a launching a programme with the people in Kampung Baru Sungai Sumun.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is the defence minister, said PAS was concerned about the influence and strength of Tengku Razaleigh who had been able to garner the support of the fence-sitters for the BN.
