Guard Govt Secrets Well, Says Rais
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 – Minister of Information, Communication and Culture Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim advised civil servants today to take extra care to guard government secrets.
This is important to prevent confidential information to fall into the wrong hands and be used to redicule, he told reporters when asked to comment on the exposure by Wilkileaks of unflattering statements that senior Singapore officials made about the Malaysian administration.
“I am of the view that all concerned with keeping government records should be vary careful after this and be more responsible in guarding government secrets,” Rais said.
The issue this time concerned diplomatic relations, but if precautionary measures were not taken, something more serious could crop up which could hurt certain quarters in the country, he added.
Rais said that it was appropriate for Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman to send Singapore a protest note.
It was Malaysia’s right to do so, he added.
