Juhar Mahiruddin Takes Over As Sabah Yang DiPertua Negeri Jan 1
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 – Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Juhar Mahiruddin will take over as the 10th Yang Dipertua Negeri of the state on Jan 1 next year.
Juhar, 57, succeeds Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah who completes his term of office on Dec 31.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin presented Juhar with the instrument of appointment at the Istana Negara today.
The ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) President Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
Juhar holds a bachelor’s degree in law and served as a first class magistrate from 1981 to 1982.
Juhar is a founder of Sabah UMNO and was involved in the negotiations between the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) and UMNO paving the way for UMNO’s entry into Sabah in 1991.
He was the MP for Kinabatangan from 1990 to 1999 and served as the speaker of the Dewan Rakyat during that period.
He was also chairman of the Batu Sapi UMNO Division from 2003 to 2008.
