Asyraf Guest At British Parliament
LONDON Aug 17 – Mohd Asyraf Haziq Rossli, a victim of mugging during the London riots was a guest at the British Parliament yesterday at the invitation of the Home Affairs Select Committee.
He was accompanied by his father Rossli Harun, mother Maznah Abu Mansoor, younger brother Muhammad Fitri, high commissioner Datuk Zakaria Sulong, and Mara Director Dr Noorzalina Mohd Noor.
Asyraf and family were taken on a tour of the Parliament. It was supposed to be tea but since it was Ramadan, they were taken on a tour instead. Asyraf also received a letter from Prime Minister David Cameron.
It also emerged that Asyraf, who catapulted to fame after a short video clip of his attack was shown worldwide, is now among 10 heroes of the London riots.
According to Time Specials, what happened “captured the essence of all that was horrible about England’s unrest”.
Asyraf felt no anger towards his attackers but felt sorry for them, especially when among them were children. He also planned to donate funds collected for him to other victims of the riots.
Another hero listed by Time Specials was Tariq Jahan, whose son was run down and killed by a car during the riots. Instead of seeking vengeance he asked only for calm.
“Blacks, Asians, whites — we all live in the same community,” he said in a speech to his community the day after his son died.
“Why do we have to kill one another? Why are we doing this?”
