Kedah Gerakan Youth Explains Proposal For Deputy MB
ALOR SETAR, Sept 5 – Kedah Gerakan Youth proposed the idea of a deputy menteri besar to reduce the workload of the Kedah menteri besar and not to take over the latter’s duties, its chief Tan Keng Liang explained today.
“We do not know when an illness or accident can occur. With a second in command, at least we will not be disorganised,” he told a press conference here.
“Even in normal times, a deputy menteri besar can reduce the workload of the menteri besar, which we all know is heavy,” he said.
Tan said the fact that the creation of such a post was at the discretion of the sultan was not an excuse to delay the matter because not just anyone could step in if something untoward happened.
Tan had previously suggested that a post of deputy menteri besar be established to ensure stability of the state administration should the leader of the state be unable to work for a long period of time.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, who suffered a heart attack in July, said yesterday that the post of deputy menteri besar was unnecessary as he had full confidence in the existing leadership of Kedah and the performance of every state executive councillor.
