Pas Members Resign, Join UMNO
KUALA NERANG, Sept 8 – More than 50 members of PAS in the Padang Terap district today resigned from the party and joined Umno, allegedly disappointed with the recent praising of communist terrorists as national heroes by PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu.
They handed over their Umno application forms to Pahang Terap Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid in Kampung Tandop Besar near here.
One of them, Ismail Abdullah, 60, a PAS member of 35 years, said he, his wife and seven children left the party because Mohamad or Mat Sabu had belittled the sacrifices of policemen.
Mat Sabu had allegedly claimed as national heroes the communist terrorists who attacked the Bukit Kepong police station in Muar, Johor, in 1950 and killed the 25 policemen and their families there.
Mahdzir, who is a former menteri besar of Kedah, said the crossover of the PAS members reflected their lack of confidence in PAS and its leadership.
