Mustapa Reminds Pas Not To Belittle UMNO’s Contribution To Islam
KOTA BAHARU, Sept 11 – International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed reminded PAS today not to belittle Umno’s contribution to Islam, race and country in the nation’s 54 years of independence.
He said Umno had contributed a lot in upholding Islam. He also reminded Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat not to adopt an arrogant attitude by belittling Umno’s contribution to the religion.
“Don’t think that he and only he alone is struggling for Islam. PAS should remember that we contributed to the religion in our own respective ways,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Aidilfitri open house of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital, here today.
Mustapa was commenting on the statement by Nik Aziz on Friday that it was of no use for Umno to wrest back Kelantan because the party’s struggle was not in line with Islam.
Meanwhile, in Parit, Perak, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek reminded the people of the 14 bitter days when the communist gained control of Malaya at the end of World War II.
“It was a bitter experience and filled with cruelties. But the younger generation no longer aware of this,” he said.
It was therefore unacceptable that PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu made a hero out of communist insurgents who attacked the Bukit Kepong police station in 1950, he said.
He said Mat Indera, the man Mohamad described as a hero was someone who was willing to share power with communist.
Ahmad Shabery had earlier launched the Parit parliamentary election machinery.
