Penang UMNO Will File Defamation Suit Against Guan Eng
GEORGE TOWN, Sept 21 – Penang Umno will file a RM30 million defamation suit against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, as a seven-day period given to Lim to tender his apology, for defamatory remarks against Umno, has expired.
“We have not received any response from Lim although the seven-day period has ended,” Penang Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said when met at the Kolej Island Teknologi Convocation, here, today.
Last Wednesday, the committee sent a notice to Lim’s office demanding an open apology in seven days or face a RM30 million suit, for claiming Penang Umno was behind demonstrations in front of his office and at Penang Bridge, on Aug 17.
Meanwhile, Zainal Abidin said Umno would not name the candidate to face Lim but left it to Gerakan and MCA to decide on a candidate with potential.
He was commenting on a statement by State Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussain Mydin, who urged Gerakan chief Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon to name the candidate for the Penang chief minister’s post, if Barisan Nasional were to win in the General Election.
In a separate statement, Zainal Abidin said the Federal Government had agreed to take over the management of Kolej Island Teknologi.
“Currently, talks are underway with the private college’s existing board of directors to enable the equity of the college to be fully held by a government subsidiary company,” he said.
